Six ways to kick start and feed your reading habit

Most people think that reading is boring, but one has to immerse themselves in a book to fully understand the essence of that book. A book is something which builds your imagination, and it takes you to places you can’t possibly imagine. If you think reading a book is boring, then you are missing out on a lot of things. It is such an amazing experience to indulge yourself in a book when the whole world around you is in chaos. Not only will you develop your language but also gain so much knowledge, and your imagination will grow like never before. So if you are planning to get started with reading, the following are some of the tips to help you to kick-start your reading habit:

Set a time:

Make sure to set a particular time where you will make yourself read. For example, you can make it a habit of reading for about 20 to 30 minutes every day after lunch or before going to bed or whichever time suits you the most. By reading daily, you will develop a habit, and you will gain interest in reading.

Carry a book with you:

Make it a point to carry a book wherever you go. For example, if you happen to travel to your work or school through a public transport where you will have some solid time to read, you can take a book with you can start to read. You never know which part of the day you will get some free time. You can even take out your book and start reading when you are waiting in a long queue or pretty much any place where you have some free time.

Make a list:

Make a list of all the books you want to read, and you can strike down each book as you finish reading them. Making a list will give you a sense of satisfaction, and you will be eager to finish all the books on your list.

Read to your kid:

If you have kids in your family, you can read to them, and this is a great way to improve their knowledge and interest in reading. You will also develop your reading habit, and you will spend some quality time with your children.


Start with short stories:

Do not start with a long novel as you might lose interest in the middle. You can start with short stories so that you will understand the essence of reading and train your brain to wait till the whole story is finished.

Start with the genre which you will enjoy the most:

If you are interested in fiction, then you can start with fictional books and then start to explore other genres. You can read the reviews of books and pick out your book choices.
